Any good music junky like myself has by now definitely heard of Sixto Rodriguez, or so I hope. Especially after shedding a few (or more) tears with the heart-warming documentary “Searching for Sugar Man.” So what’s with all the hype surrounding Rodriguez? His appeal is pretty straightforward: he is a humble-mannered 70-year-old rock star whose songs speak of life, love and politics with a 60’s and 70’s sound reminiscent of Bob Dylan and, despite his musical genius, he still went unknown outside of South Africa for so many years, thus adding a fairytale-like twist to his story. Although his Primavera Sound gig was cancelled, Barcelona fans will luckily still have the chance to see him on July 8th at Poble Espanyol. We at La Monda praise this man’s talent and wonder we do why he was not discovered earlier!
