GLENN JONES: FURTHER BEYOND

Sometimes it’s clear to see that it’s connotations, and not word meanings, what really for a language. “Honey” can be an insult, a provocation, what bees puke or a nice word. “Fatty” can be an adjective, a cute way to call someone or a disrespectful name. There’s levels and even the slowest ones catch them.

The same thing happens with Glenn Jones; the reading levels are infite. Behind this easy and absurd illustrations, this Auckland (NZ – we’d love to be invited) born but Texas (USA – we’d love to be invited too) based designer build real wit pieces. From instagram and further beyond.

ZEREN BADAR: TURKISH DELIGHT

Turkey has got that thing that we can’t quite put the finger on; with a part in Europe and the other bigger part in Asia, its cultural mix, that modern and old infuence cocktail shaker, always leaves us the certainty there’s much more to discover behind what comes from this country.

The self-taught Turkish conceptual artist Zeren Badar is a mix in himself. Based in New York, he creates collage and compositions joining modern objects and old art, photography and sweets, sardines and portraits, apples and oranges. With a very strong visual and meaning load, Badar also leaves us wanting to discover more of him (and also if his website is an exercise in absurd humour).

LAZY OAF: FROM HERE ON

Not everything can be artists, photographers or illustrators. Today we bring you one of our favourite clothing brands, Lazy Oaf; no matter if it snows, it thunders, it’s raining meatballs or trees throw little flowers on our way, our daily from here on will be like this, thanks to them. Their imagery is perfect, they collaborate with great artists and they always surprise us with fried eggs and sausages. Also, we are a bit lazy, especially in so many heat waves in a row. We love Lazy Oaf.

Tumblr Art: Claiming the silent minority

“¡Let the silent minority talk!”. That’s what, drunk as a rat, the liquor loving Spanish writer and filmmaker Fernando Arrabal claimed on a round table talking about the already old milenarism (that term might not even exist anywhere else than inside this enlighted Arrabal’s brain, now that I think about it). The silent minority is that group of people that turn their back on the standard and that are forgotten by the mass media, like people than more than two nipples, librarians or celiacs.
Luckily, this last group of gluten intolerants have decided to leave the shadows in which they’ve been locked for years creating the Gluten Free Museum, a side History of Art without the omnipresence of bread. To hell with Millet’s wheat fields or Dalís still lifes; from Vermeer to Jeff Koons, going through Tarantino, there’s not a single crumb that has avoided the gluten inquisition. Not only this collective is outstanding in their quest for showing the celiac condition in history, but also because of their amazing usage of Photoshop to eliminate any sign of wheat, rye, oat or similar. Another group that has decided to ask for their recognition is the one of the flamingo lovers. Yeah, that posing bird that has few friends in the Western culture. The silent minority is now in control of the artistic panorama. Behold museums, Tumblr is giving voice to the forgotten ones!

ADRIÁ COLORADO: LSD PREHISTORY

Adriá Colorado is part of our cult. He likes colour, fun and he probably likes partying more than Paris Hilton. Rupestris is the name of the new line by this fantastic Spanish designer that, inspired by Prehistory times, goes for discretion (*cough*). You could go to the corner shop, dance at Sónar or attend to your nephew’s bar mitzvah wearing his new collection; nevermind the occasion, Rupestris is colour and our souls are full of colours. That’s me being a total poet, by the way.

FAT & FURIOUS BURGER, VOL. II

We’re very happy to announce that, finally, Spring is here. You didn’t know, did you? What we’re not so happy about are the 800+ diets that come up to our brains; from the artichoke diet to the melon one through the more “let’s get physical” ones. They all just sound daunting. We begin to sweat and just by thinking about them we got a headache. But, boys and girls, once again, La Monda is here to solve the problems; stop worrying and enter this wonderful website, buy all the prints, dress your rooms-corridors-living rooms-bathrooms in them and bite your nails while you imagine yourself munching on one of those huge greasy burgers by Fat & Furious Burger. Trust us, this diet will allow you to wear trikinis for Sónar.

DOLLARSTORE: LOVING NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST

They say that if there was a nuclear disaster to happen only cockroaches, probably jellyfish (that thing has been floating in the sea for ages doing NOTHING), Hugh Hefner and Robert Smith would survive, all dancing happily in front of the destruction of the Earth. Or maybe not, but in an apocalyptic scenery, I’d rather see some absurd.

Absurdity is the pillar in which Benoit Paille and Daniel Delisle have seated for their “DollarStore” session. As Paille explains, the background of this amazing dollar store stuff still life series is highlighting its nonsense existence, creating a discussion on the consume society and the human exploitation cost in China that these objects have. Impeccable aesthetics, well mixed colours and melted little animal figures that wouldn’t cost more than 1$ and seem to shake of fantasy toxic waste. Paille and Delisle have nailed it.

SAMUEL HENNE: ART ATTACKEN

Germany, that great country of sausages, controversial History, Berghain, real castles and rough language. Where people are doing well but don’t celebrate it; where being superior not only to other beings, but to entire countries, is a custom. Where surnames such as Düsediekerbäumer actually exist. The country of effectiveness. What would become of Europe without Germany.

Germany is also the country master of efficiency; have a look at photographer Samuel Henne‘s work. Using individual objects, this German creates with them a new thing and achieve what sounds rather difficult; functionality on an image. Utility, even. Something that emanates more of a purpose than you on a Sunday. Henne doesn’t seem to find beauty merely in the aesthetic, but he seems to pursue justification, probably due to his long genetic inheritance. Simply Wünderbar.
